The operational model is built around speed, reliability and the Organ Care System technology that keeps donor organs viable for longer periods during transport. In the United States TransMedics has demonstrated that dedicated aircraft, ground teams and integrated logistics can dramatically increase the number of usable organs and expand the geographic reach of transplant programmes. The European expansion follows the same playbook. The German launch partner will operate aircraft configured for rapid deployment medical teams and temperature-controlled environments optimised for heart, lung, liver and other time-sensitive organs. The network will combine point-to-point flights with ground ambulance hand-offs to minimise cold ischaemic time, the critical window in which an organ must reach the recipient.

Challenges remain.
